One of the biggest mistakes that athletes make when they are looking to make gains in their fitness journey is thinking that kicking as high as they can, as hard as they can, and as fast as they can is the quickest way to make them kick higher, stronger, and faster. Maxing out on any activity doesn’t lead to rapid growth; it leads to rapid burnout. Sometimes, burnout is fatigue, injury, or soreness that lasts for days after training. The superior strategy is to aim for 70-80% of your ability in the area you wish to improve.
Allowing ourselves to hold something back in training means that we experience the benefits of the exercise without burnout. This lets us enjoy the process, reduce injuries, and recover faster. There are times when pushing your body to the limit is the right thing to do, such as in competition, but we should keep our training sessions below the maximum for our growth, comfort, and safety.
